Traumatic Brain Injuries Case Services

The TBI Case Services is designed to assist individuals with Traumatic Brain Injury to prepare
for employment through a structured, time-limited service, that provides Vocational Assessment
as well as Personal, Vocational and Social Adjustment (PVSA) individual/group services. We serve
approximately 24 individuals each year, through a collaborative effort involving the California
Department of Rehabilitation, Department of Mental Health, and St. Mary's Hospital. Consumers
must also be enrolled in TBINET to be eligible for this service.
All individuals referred will participate in a vocational assessment to determine current
educational level, vocational skills, abilities, and interests. Volunteer opportunities will be
available as part of the assessment process. Results of the vocational assessment will assist staff
in developing a vocational plan to determine the kind of support needed to obtain and retain
employment.
Personal, Vocational, and Social Adjustment (PVSA) classes will be tailored to meet unique needs
of each individual and may be related to a variety of vocational needs, including, but not limited
to appropriate grooming, workplace conduct, supervisory interactions, co-worker interaction,
learning style adaptations, self-advocacy, and family intervention services.
Classes are conducted individually or through groups. Entrance/exit is flexible, allowing
individuals to access the areas that are of particular interest or need and repeat them if
necessary. The program length will vary depending on individual needs, and may be used to assist
an individual's transition into job placement more successfully.
