Marin Adult Development Center
San Rafael
Adults served in the Marin Adult Development Program attend activities that are designed and
adapted to fit the needs and strengths of each individual. This program serves as the primary
day program in Marin for adults with severe developmental disabilities. Many participants also
have physical and/or behavioral challenges. Most have attended other day programs in Marin County
without success, but have found a comfortable and stimulating atmosphere at the Marin Adult
Development Program.
Participants enjoy the opportunity to choose between several activities on a daily basis. Staff
provide support and assistance in on-site activities including art, music, games and basic
education, cooking, self-help and communication skills. Adaptive equipment and individualized
teaching plans insure that everyone can participate. Community based activities occur on a daily
basis and include trips to local museums, parks, farmers markets and cultural events.
Participants also take advantage of overnight adventure trips, which include camping trips in
Yosemite and sea kayaking outings to Angel Island.
